The CDC-Kaiser Permanent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is one of the most significant childhood abuse and neglect investigations. The original study was conducted from 1995-1997 and involved 17 000 people completing questionnaires. It clearly showed how abuse and neglect in childhood lead to challenges in later-life health and well-being.
What is especially important is to note that 5 out of 10 leading causes of death are associated with ACEs.
